Musketeers go 1-1 through last week

By: Jayden Birkner

The Musketeers took on the non-conference opponent Wesclin Warriors on Jan. 7. The Warriors were 7-7 coming into the matchup and the Musketeers were 5-8.

The Musketeers started off the game slow offensively in the first quarter, only scoring nine points. Fortunately, they took care of the basketball and did not turn it over, they just were not hitting their shots. The defense played well enough to keep the Musketeers in the game, although they did give up two open three pointers. The Musketeers trailed 13-9 heading into the second.

The Musketeers played stellar defense in the second quarter. They gave up only two points. They did not give up any offensive rebounds to the Warriors and forced some turnovers. The Musketeer offense put up 10 in the quarter. Max Diewald hit a 3 pointer, Jayden Birkner converted an and-one, and Carter Wiegard put in four. The Musketeers took a 19-15 lead into half.

The Musketeers opened up the half on a 6-0 scoring run to open up the lead to 25-15. The Warriors threw the ball away to the Musketeers repeatedly, and they capitalized. Unfortunately, the Musketeers did not keep their foot on the gas and went stagnant on offense.

The Warriors managed to get some buckets and cut the lead to just five for the Musketeers. The score was 33-28 heading into the fourth.
