SECURITY FOOTAGE–The Red Bud School District provided this image of Mason Manning in the school’s gymnasium lobby, wearing a costume from the school’s theatre department.
Red Bud Community School District administrators and staff were surprised to find a man had broken into the high school in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 28.
Security footage showed a man, with distinctive tattoos on his arm and not wearing a shirt, had entered the school around 1 a.m.
Red Bud Police noted that the individual roamed around the school for around 50 minutes. During that time, he peered into rooms, lifted some weights and dry-mopped in the weight room, splashed some water from a water bottle around in a storage room and in the gymnasium lobby, and poured some soap from the concession stand out in the gym lobby. He eventually left the school wearing a costume from the theatre department.
Around 6 p.m. on Monday, July 29, the school district posted images of the suspect on Facebook asking for help in identifying him.
Thanks to the good images from the school’s security system, the suspect was very quickly identified.
Mason Manning, 19, of Red Bud, turned himself in to the Red Bud Police on Monday night, and also returned the costume he had taken.
