A lawsuit against a Red Bud man, a Hecker restaurant and a local farm business was filed recently as a result of a two vehicle accident on Jan. 3.
The five count lawsuit was filed with the Monroe Court by Belleville attorney Brad Badgley on behalf of Amanda N. Johnson, 26, of Millstadt. The lawsuit names the defendants as Stefan D. Bauer, 21, of Red Bud, Kloeppers Hilltop Trust B (a farming operation) and Back Street Wine and Dine of Hecker.
According to the Illinois State Police, the accident happened on State Route 159 near Sunset Lane (between Red Bud and Hecker) at 10:46 p.m. when the 1998 Chevrolet S10 driven by Bauer went off the right side of the roadway, he over corrected and crossed into oncoming traffic. The truck struck a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by Johnson.
Both drivers sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries and were airlifted to hospitals for treatment.
Bauer was later charged with felony aggravated DUI, but has entered a plea of not guilty. A case management hearing for that charge is scheduled for March 5 at the Monroe County Courthouse.
