Ladies defeat Waterloo to claim third place

THIRD PLACE–Red Bud participated in the Gibault Candy Cane Tournament last week and defeated Waterloo 30-28 to claim third place. Last week the Red Bud Lady Musketeers participated in the annual Gibault Candy Cane Tournament. They played against Gibault in the first round, Columbia in the semi-finals, and Waterloo for the third place championship.

On Monday, Dec. 10 the Lady Musketeers faced the Gibault Lady Hawks. Red Bud scored a total of six points in the first quarter. Claire Grohmann sank a two-pointer. Hannah Sievers got fouled and went two for two from the free throw line. Hope Guebert and Sami Lucht each went one for two from the free throw line. The score at the end of the quarter was 6-4, the Lady Musketeers were on top.

In the second quarter, the ladies added another 13 points to the scoreboard. Alyssa Heller sank one, three-pointer. Kassidy Ellner made one, two-pointer and went one for three from the free throw line. Reese Foster, Sievers, and Grohmann each scored a two-pointer. Amber Stengel was fouled and went one for two from the free throw line. The score going into halftime was 19-6, Red Bud was on top.

The Lady Musketeers added another six points to their score in the third quarter. Stengel, Lucht, and Sievers each made a basket. The score after the third quarter was 25-12.

In the final quarter of the game, the Lady Musketeers scored 11 points. Grohmann made one, two-pointer and went four for four from the free throw line. Sievers contributed a basket. Guebert went two for four from the free throw line and Stengel went one for two from the free throw line. Red Bud finished with a 36-24 victory advancing to the semi-finals.
