On Oct. 29, Randolph County State’s Attorney Jeremy Walker reported that the 16 year old juvenile involved in the Aug. 7 stabbing incident at Lincoln Park in Red Bud had been sentenced.
While Walker could not release the juvenile’s name, he was able to give some information about the sentence.
The juvenile was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice with an indeterminate sentence that cannot exceed his 21st birthday.
Walker noted that the sentence could not exceed the maximum sentence if he had been an adult, which is five years.
He also clarified, “With an indeterminate sentence there is no minimum. The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice will make the decision when they feel it is appropriate for him to go home. It is my understanding they review every minor approximately every 90 days to see if they are fit for release.”
