The Girl Scout troops in Service Unit #57 – Northern Randolph County held a drive this fall to collect old cell phones for the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization. This national non-profit organization recycles old phones and then use the proceeds to purchase calling cards which are given to military members serving overseas. Each donated cell phone equals two hours of talk time. The Girl Scouts were able to collect 63 phones during their drive. Last week, they turned the phones in at State Representative Jerry Costello, II’s office in Red Bud, which is an official Cell Phones for Soldiers drop-off location. Pictured with Costello and some of the donated phones are Girl Scouts Alison Koester and Makayla VanEck.
