ADVANCES–RBHS wrestler Caleb Bass took third place in the 285 pound weight class at the Anna-Jonesboro regional held Feb. 2. He advances to the Carterville sectional this weekend. Bass is the son of Brandi Bass.
RBHS wrestler Pierce Heizer won the regional championship at 220 pounds this past weekend at the Anna Jonesboro regional. Heizer, a junior with a record of 19-10, was seeded second in the tournament and received a first round bye. In the semi final round, Heizer pinned Junior Brady Vallet, 19-18 of Sparta. He pinned the number one seed, Senior Isaac Pacheco, 29-14, from Murphysboro in the championship match.
Freshman Caleb Bass,14-13, finished third place in the 285 pound weight class to advance to the sectional tournament. Bass was seeded fourth in the tournament. He pinned Senior Allen Grammer, 12-22, from Murphysboro in the first round. He lost to eventual champion Senior Garrett Fabec, 30-11, from Anna Jonesboro in the semi final round. Bass again pinned Grammer in the finals to take third place.
Heizer and Bass will now wrestle Friday and Saturday at the Carterville sectional. Heizer earned a first round bye for winning the regional. He will wrestle the winner of Senior Carston Sanders, 24-14, from Benton and Junior Lonnie Jordan, 28-8, of Monticello. Bass will wrestle Freshman Austin McDaniel, 26-11, from Unity. The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state tournament in Champaign.
