Evansville board asked to get codes up to date

At the Nov. 12 Evansville Village Board meeting, the trustees were asked if they could make some progress with updating the village code books.

Zoning Administrator Mark McConachie noted that the updated code books have yet to be approved. Previously, a draft was given to the board for consideration and they sent back their suggestions to Frank Heiligenstein of Illinois Codification Services, but a final version has yet to be approved.

“We need to get something done so I can do a confident job,” McConachie told the board. “I have several issues that need to be addressed, but my hands are tied.”

He noted that the old and new versions of the zoning codes contradict each other. And should he write a ticket off of the old code, just for it to be changed in a few months?

“It makes the town look unorganized,” McConachie continued. “When I’m approached to make a call or am asked about an issue, I have no way to advise the board, who knows less than me. We need to get this done.”
