Evansville board approved of police department purchases

At their meeting Monday night, the Evansville Village Board approved of three purchases for their police department.

Police Chief Todd Ehlers noted that last month he had discussed the department’s need for a rifle. At the time, he had said that he would like to purchase an AR-15 style rifle and was told to get some prices to present to the board.

This month, he presented some quotes that he had received from Ron Schenk. With the gun, case, sling, sights, light and extra magazines, the cost came in around $800.

“It seems like a tool they need,” commented Trustee Ron Heinen.

The board, with the exception of Trustees Kenny Kempfer and Justen Kempfer who voted no, approved of the purchase not to exceed $900.

Revisiting another matter, Ehlers again asked what he should do with the light bar that was donated to the department. He previously had a price quote of around $600 to get the light bar installed in the squad car, but they had felt they could get a better price.

“I don’t want to keep it if we won’t in good faith use it,” he told the board of the donated item.
