Evansville approves resurfacing contracts

On Monday night, the Evansville Village Board approved of the necessary contracts to move forward with the Liberty Street resurfacing project.

At last month’s meeting, the board discussed the project and on Monday night, Tony Schenk, an engineer and project manager with Gonzalez Companies, presented them with contracts.

The project is to resurface 850 feet of Liberty Street, from Church to Jackson Streets, utilizing an 80/20 federal grant. This particular grant uses the United States Department of Transportation’s emergency relief fund to repair roads, and this section of road was damaged by flooding. The estimated cost of the project is $164,000 (which includes engineering costs).

Schenk noted that for the project itself, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will pay contractors directly and the village will have to pay back 20 percent of the cost. However, with the engineering costs, the village will have to pay those up front and be reimbursed by IDOT.
