Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois congratulates Jessica Penford, a Juliette Girl Scout from Ellis Grove, for becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout—a designation she earned through her “Make Our Park Beautiful” project.
She is the daughter of James and Adena Penford. Juliette Girl Scouts are registered girl members, in grades K-12, who are not affiliated with a troop. They participate in a way that fits their schedule, attending events and participating in activities that meet their needs and interests. At the time of earning her award she was a student at Chester High School. The park in Penford’s hometown was in need of repair and refresh and she set out to help it become a public space the members of her community would be proud to utilize.
The Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable – earned by a high school Girl Scout who works to address an issue she’s passionate about in a way that produces meaningful and lasting change. Whether it’s on a local, national or global level, Gold Award Girl Scouts provide innovative solutions to significant challenges.
