Cross Country starts off with new leadership

GREAT START TO THE SEASON–The Red Bud High School Cross Country Team had a successful first meet at New Athens on Monday, Aug. 26. The team was well represented as they had eight athletes earn a medal at the competition. Pictured are team members: Brandon Voss, Simone Liefer, Calyn Hartmann, Logan Schoenbeck, Ellie Suhre, Adrienne Vallett, Ethan Summers and Warren Stolte.

The Red Bud Runnin’ Musketeers started off their season August 26 at the New Athens invitational and also ran this past Saturday at the SIU-Edwardsville invitational. With the start of the new season has also brought about some change. Robert Ashley retired after nine seasons coaching the team. Filling his shoes are Andrew Langrehr coaching the boys team and Julie Fehr coaching the girls team. Neither are a stranger to the sport. Andrew has been volunteering as the assistant coach for the last seven years and Julie has four years of head coach experience at St. John’s Lutheran.

The boys team is led this year by two seniors: Edward Miller and Logan Schoenbeck. Both members bring four years of experience and leadership that will be needed to guide the team to its goals. Edward achieved All Conference honors and was an individual sectional qualifier last year. A full summer of running and conditioning has set expectations even higher this fall for these senior boys. The team expects a strong showing from both of them.
