On Oct. 27, a Drug Take Back Day was held in Randolph County.
This event, held by the Southern Illinois Substance Abuse Alliance (SISAA), provided a safe and secure place for individuals to dispose of any unwanted, unused or expired prescription medications from their homes. The event also provides an opportunity for citizens to prevent drug addition and overdose deaths in their communities.
At Drug Take Back Day this year, a total of 110.4 pounds of medications were collected in Red Bud, 64.2 pounds were collected in Chester and 61.6 pounds were collected in Sparta, for a grand total of 236.2 pounds.
In addition to Drug Take Back Day, drop off locations are open year round at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department as well as at the Red Bud, Chester, Sparta and Coulterville Police Departments.
