Commissioners pass resolution of support for shooting complex

At their Dec. 11 meeting, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution in support of the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta.

Commissioner Ronnie White noted that they have been getting calls about the situation out at the complex. He explained that while the State of Illinois did not allow the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) to hold their annual Grand American competition there this year, the state still required that the vendors that have leases at the complex still pay their rent.

In addition, the vendors were also notified that the state was changing the process for the vendors to renew their leases. The vendors were told that they would have to bid for “a spot,” which may not necessarily be the one they currently have. This change upset many vendors as they have invested a lot into their spaces.

White did say that in the past week the state changed the bid process to allow the vendors to bid on their current spots, but they still have to bid instead of just lease the spots.
