Commissioners heard about special use permit

A special use permit for a property near Baldwin was a hot topic at the Jan. 24 Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Specifically, the special use permit would allow Next Level Strategy, LLC d/b/a Next Level Metal to conduct industrial activities at their current location which is owned by DKG, LLC at the former Zanders Sporting Goods facility on State Route 154 outside Baldwin.

Next Level has been working at the location for some time, but some issues with the neighboring property owners, and the expansion of the company’s work, has led to the necessity of the special use permit. The county’s zoning board declined to make a recommendation on the permit.

Judge Platt, who is an owner and one of the managers of Next Level, told the county commissioners that they were requesting a six month temporary special use permit. They hope to be able to relocate within that time frame, as they have outgrown the facility and are actively looking for a new location. In addition, the permit would change zoning from commercial to industrial.
