Commissioners give Evansville jurisdiction over section of road

At their Dec. 27 meeting, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners approved of a road deletion resolution, granting jurisdiction of a section of Schuline Road to the Village of Evansville.

Randolph County Engineer Mike Riebeling told the commissioners that a few months ago he had been contacted by Evansville Village President Erwin “Red” Becker about the matter. The village was wanting to annex almost a quarter mile of Schuline Road (Broad Street in town), from Sixth Street to Evans Drive.

Riebeling noted that he had just received the proper paperwork to transfer the jurisdictional transfer from the Illinois Department of Transportation and presented it to the commissioners, which they approved. It was noted that the village will be approving their side of the paperwork at their Jan. 14 meeting.

“We’re happy to work with them,” stated Commissioner Marc Kiehna.

Board Chair David Holder added that there had been discussions on transferring jurisdiction of that stretch of road in the past. “I guess they’re ready to move on it now.”
