Candidates for April 2 election announced

Filing for the April 2 consolidated election opened on Monday, Dec. 10 and closed this week on Monday, Dec. 17.

In Red Bud, it looks like there will be two races with competition – mayor and alderman of Ward 3.

Current Mayor Tim Lowry will be facing off against former mayor John Horrell. Lowry has been Red Bud’s mayor since May 2011. Horrell had served as mayor from August 1997 through May 2007.

In Ward 3, David Friess, the current alderman who this past November had ran for state representative, is being challenged by David Wittenauer and Larry Mehring.

All other positions on the ballot for the City of Red Bud are unchallenged. Seeking re-election are Marcia Esker as city treasurer; Joanne Cowell as city clerk; and Kyle Donjon as Ward 2 alderman.

Also in Ward 3, Curtis Guebert is running unopposed for a two year term. A current alderman, Guebert had been appointed for two years in May 2017 following the passing of Alderman Don Thompson.

In Ward 1, Jeremy Demond will be running unopposed for alderman. In Ward 4, Leroy “Mike” Rheinecker will also be running unopposed for alderman.
