Baseball season is upon us and Red Bud High School’s team was set to take the field on Tuesday at Valmeyer. The practice season started on Feb. 25th and got off to a rough start as the flu hit Head Coach David Lucht causing him to miss the first four practices.
“Thank goodness for competent assistant coaches and dedicated players. And on top of that, the weather has not been ideal baseball conditions,” said Coach Lucht.
“As we open up on Tuesday at Valmeyer we will have been outside twice and have not been able to take a legit ground ball. The good news is all programs are in the same boat and I expect there will be mistakes early in the season, but we should get better and more efficient,” he said.
Coach Lucht explains this years squad is relatively young because of the many seniors lost to graduation, but there are several players with varsity experience and he is expecting them to play better than last year and compete for a conference title.
“As of right now, I expect our pitching to be our strength. We have been able to at least throw and get our arms in better shape than last year at this time.
